With the news of Gilmore Girls returning for four new episodes, speculation about whether the original actors would be coming back quickly began. Soon enough, everyone from the main cast was confirmed, but Melissa McCarthy, who portrayed the beloved, quirky Sookie St. James.
Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino then said the actress was busy with other projects, thus unable to be in the reboot; but that she would write her a scene if she changed her mind. However, McCarthy herself tweeted that no one had actually asked her to be part of the new episodes!

“Literally about an hour-and-a-half ago we figured out that I am gonna go back and do it and I am so excited. And [the episodes] are gonna be amazing,” she said. “Amy Sherman-Palladino is going to squeeze me in to do it and I’m very happy to go back to Stars Hollow…”
