Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’ gets a makeover for a good cause

2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Spice Girls’ Wannabe music video and Project Everyone is remembering the song under a whole new light. In support of the UN’s Global Goals campaign and its #WhatIReallyReallyWant movement, there’s now a new inspiring clip for the ‘90s pop anthem.

The powerful video promotes diversity and raises awareness on violence against girls, lack of quality education and child marriage. The Global Goals campaign is asking women to share their wants on social media – using #WhatIReallyReallyWant – and help deal with those issues.

Recreating Wannabe’s iconic clip also meant employing an impressive cast, including Sri Lankan Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez, Nigeria’s Seyi Shay, South Africa’s Gigi Lamayne and Monoea, the United States’ Larsen Thompson, the U.K.’s M.O. and Canada’s Taylor Hatala.

Talking to The Guardian, Victoria Beckham herself praised the cause saying “How fabulous it is that after 20 years the legacy of the Spice Girls’ girl power is being used to encourage and empower a whole new generation?” Melanie C also tweeted:

Embrace the girl power, people!
