When I first listened to this song, I thought it was a bit silly. To be honest, I still think it is, especially if you pay extra attention to its lyrics.
Even so, Bran Van 3000’s Drinking in L.A. pretty much defined the late ‘90s. Included in the band’s 1997 Glee album, the song had become a worldwide hit by 1999 and still manages to cheer people up on the radio. Once it grows on you, it’s surely hard to shake it off. Plus, those colours!
“But we did nothing, absolutely nothing that day
And I say, what the hell am I doing drinking in L.A. at 26?”
