I think it’s safe to say we’ve all missed Lady Gaga’s colourful and extreme characters, the ones she’s pushed aside for her latest, more personal album, Joanne. And even though it’s nice to have witnessed this rawer, more authentic side of hers through the Perfect Illusion and Million Reasons videos, I’ve been craving for some of that crazy old Gaga for a while now.
Luckily, the singer has now unveiled a new music video for her song John Wayne and it looks like my wish has been partly granted. The clip – directed by Jonas Akerlund, who also directed Telephone – is literally fluorescent and full of action, resembling a comic book!
Gaga’s ‘Joanne attire’ is still present, but this rock and roll, rebellious shooter alter ego reminds me of the good old times. Needless to say, the song is just as fan as the clip. Dropped after Gaga’s successful Super Bowl Halftime Show, John Wayne makes it clear that 2017 will be her year.
