London Grammar unveil new cinematic video for ‘Non-Believer’

It’s not like I expected anything less from London Grammar, but the band’s latest clip is one true spectacle.

Non-Believer is the fourth single to be released off London Grammar’s Truth Is a Beautiful Thing album, preceded by the equally impressive Rooting for You, Big Picture and Oh Woman Oh Man. None of those came with such an amazing music video, though, and it probably comes down to its director, the inventive Jodeb.

Explaining the cinematic feel of the clip and its ambiguous character, Jodeb said, “We wanted to create a character that you would never really know if she is a good or ill-intentioned person… I was looking to create a subtle sense of paranoia all throughout the film”.

And he managed to do just that, through a series of stunning visuals and actress Karelle Tremblay’s compelling presence. Non-Believer will likely have you floating into the abyss, as you get carried away by frontwoman Hannah Reid’s soothing vocals…

Taylor Swift ‘kills off’ her reputation in new music video

Taylor Swift unveiled the clip for her latest single, Look What You Made Me Do (released on Friday) at the MTV Video Music Awards last night, and it looks like she found the perfect way to silence her haters. With the song itself being surprisingly dark for Swift, the vengeful and mostly ironic vibe of the video was, of course, to be expected.

From the get-go, we see a zombie Taylor crawling out from her reputation’s grave and what follows is even greater. Bird cages, snakes, diamonds and Swift’s personal lifeless ‘army’ (possibly a reference to her IRL squad?) are all part of Swift’s persona as perceived by the media; and what better way to fight back than by simply owning it?

The real highlight of the clip, though, is the part where she literally steps on past versions of herself (you’ll find all kinds of old Taylors in that ‘pile’ – from her You Belong With Me character to her on-stage self dressed in her Red Tour costume), with the ‘self-mockery’ reaching its peak at the very end.

I couldn’t think of a more to-the-point way to end the clip than with everyone’s favourite passive-aggressive Taylor line. You know, the one she used to respond to that Kim Snapchat post with. “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative,” Swift’s 2009-MTV-VMAs self dares to say before all the others shout “SHUT UP!”

* Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, Reputation, is due for release on November 10.

Chester, a series of music comebacks and everything in between

This has been one busy summer! Apparently not only for me but for the music industry as well. My last post in June seems like ages ago and that’s partly because July and especially August were literally packed with new releases and music videos – also partly because a lot can obviously happen music-wise over the course of two months. So before yet another summer season officially ends, I feel like I need to revisit the highlights of these last couple of months. Bear with me and I’m sure you’ll find you, too, missed a clip or two! Throwback Thursday!

Tomorrow marks 20 years since the release of The Verve’s Bitter Sweet Symphony, but the song feels just as relevant today.

Included in the band’s Urban Hymns album, the track samples the main theme of The Rolling Stones’ The Last Time. Following a legal controversy between the two bands upon its release, Verve eventually lost all composing credits to the song. Ironically, it is their biggest hit to date.

Bitter Sweet Symphony is also included in the soundtrack of one of my favourite ‘90s films, Cruel Intentions, adding an extra dose of drama and relief in that last defining scene.

“No change, I can’t change, I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mold, I am here in my mold”

Demi Moore talks missing two front teeth and then inhales some helium!

It’s been awhile since I last saw Demi Moore giving an interview and it seems the actress looks more stunning now than ever. She even managed to look gorgeous without her one front tooth!

Moore revealed she recently lost her two front teeth but fixed them right before appearing on The Tonight Show. As she told Jimmy Fallon, it’s all down to stress. “I sheared off my front teeth,” she said, before showing a photograph of herself missing one of them.

“I’d love to say it was skateboarding or something really kind of like cool,” she explained, “but I think it’s really something that’s important to share, because I think it’s literally, probably after heart disease, one of the biggest killers in America, which is stress. Stress sheared off my front tooth. But, in an effort to get ready for you, I wanted to make sure my teeth were in.”

Moore went on to inhale helium with Fallon and present her new film, Rough Night, in the funniest voice ever.

Who knew stress could actually do that to your teeth? I say let’s all inhale some helium and laugh our troubles away.

Katy Perry is surprisingly honest in ‘Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts’ game

James Corden loves to torture his guests with disgusting food every now and then. The Late Late Show host has now invited Kate Perry to a hilarious round of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts and, for the first time, something strange has happened.

While most guests force themselves to eat all kinds of gross ‘food’, from bull’s semen to bird saliva, in order to avoid answering Corden’s hard questions, Perry was so disgusted by the culinary options on the table that she made an honest effort to actually give some truthful answers.

For example, when it came to choosing between a 1,000-year-old egg and ranking her lovers, she chose the latter! That’s right; the singer revealed on air that, out of three of her relationships, Orlando Bloom was the best in bed, with John Mayer and then Diplo following suit. Honestly, I would have just eaten the egg! Also, how Corden predicted Diplo’s third place, I’ll never know.

The clip includes many more fun moments, such as Corden having to admit he turned down The Wanted for his Carpool Karaoke segment. As for the band’s fans who, according to Perry, must be angry with the host after this statement, Corden will “happily meet all seven of them in the parking lot at some point!”

On another note, how good does Katy Perry look in the morning!

Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor reunite for 16th anniversary of ‘Moulin Rouge’

It’s been 16 years since Baz Luhrmann’s classic, Moulin Rouge, hit theatres worldwide, but the film still holds a special place in true romantics’ hearts. It’s no wonder, considering the undeniable chemistry of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, which gave life to the movie’s already wild spirit.

So it was about time the co-stars sat down to talk about how the Moulin Rouge phenomenon came about. The two of them appeared on Variety’s Actors on Actors series to basically let us know that Moulin Rouge was just as exciting and crazy ‘backstage’ as it turned out to be on screen!

“I remember absinthe being passed out at one point and me going, ‘Is this safe?’” said Kidman, reminiscing about the partying that went on behind the scenes. What’s even more fascinating is the fact that the shooting process lasted an entire year, with the script quite often based on the actors’ own improvisations.

Well, they don’t make them like this anymore!
