The 89th Academy Awards ceremony was surely one that will go down in history as the weirdest of them all! From ‘killing off’ film producer Jan Chapman to initially awarding La La Land with Best Picture instead of Moonlight, this Oscars night was not short of embarrassing moments!
And when a huge error like announcing the wrong winner happens, the host is no doubt the one that should set the record straight. Only this mix-up was so strange that even a La La Land producer looked more in the know than host Jimmy Kimmel himself! And that’s only because he was gracious enough to call the Moonlight people up on stage as soon as he was informed that his film had not, in fact, won Best Picture.
Kimmel eventually got to the bottom of this – soon after Pricewaterhouse Coopers took the blame for handing the wrong envelope to Warren Beatty – and explained the whole thing on his show the following night. It’s worth watching his hilarious, but also, in a way, mortifying, description of the incident, and getting a better understanding of what happened.
“Who the hell even knows who is who from which movie and I’m standing there like an idiot feeling bad for these guys but also trying really hard not to laugh, to be honest,” said Kimmel. Continue reading “Jimmy Kimmel explains the Oscars ‘Best Picture mix-up’”
Have I mentioned how much I love this band? Only like a hundred times. twenty one pilots won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance last night for their song Stressed Out and they very much deserved it; not only because they’re great performers, but also because they’re guys you’d like to hang out with!
Before going on stage, the boys took off their pants and received the award in their underwear – yes; really. But just as everyone was starting to freak out, they began telling a beautiful story. As it turns out, this is how they used to watch the Grammys in ‘the good old days’.
“As we were watching we noticed that every single one of us was in our underwear,” recalled vocalist Tyler Joseph of a time he and drummer Josh Dun watched the Grammys at home with some of their friends. “And seriously – and we were no one at that time – he turned to me and said, ‘You know, if we ever go to the Grammys, if we ever win a Grammy, we should receive it just like this.’”
And just like that, it all made sense… I mean, otherwise that would have been totally weird! Joseph also went on to remind everyone that they “could be next. Because anyone, from anywhere, can do anything.”
So do remember that being humble always goes a long way. Even if you have to strip down in the end.

Emma Stone can be pretty awkward and goofy at times, which is probably what makes us love her in the first place. Having just won the Best Actress award for her performance in La La Land both at the Golden Globes and the Sag Awards so far, the actress appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and recounted some of her very awkward moments!
Following the success of the film, both Stone and co-star Ryan Gosling were honoured by having their hand and footprints enshrined outside TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, as many other Hollywood icons have done in the past. Only problem was Stone had no idea this was the actual ceremony, but rather saw this as an informal celebration, thinking their handprints would then be taken to some other – less important – place! As we’ve been waiting impatiently for this somewhat grim year to come to its end, 2017 already sounds promising! The Recording Academy announced the host for its 59th Annual Grammy Awards on Tuesday, and it’s none other than our very own James Corden.
While LL Cool J has been an outstanding host for the past five years, there’s always room for new blood and exciting changes. And who better to host the Grammys than the man who regularly invites musicians to his car and drives them around town, while singing along to their hits!
So before LL Cool J officially passes the baton to another ‘cool James that the ladies love’ on February 12, here are five reasons why next year’s Grammys will probably be the best ever.
- we’re in for some serious laughs.
The Grammy Awards are not usually the funniest of them all, with the Academy quite often being deemed as too serious – sometimes even pretentious. But with James on board, all of this is going to change! You cannot ask a comedian to host the show and expect him to blurt out some scripted, boring lines. Nope; he will have some ironically accurate Trump-related jokes to tell and we might even get a funny sketch in the process. Beware, Queen Bey!

Who would’ve thought that this day would come? The day when Britney Spears would be our pop princess again, the one we once left behind to fade away along with our childhood dreams? 2007 was not a good year for Brit and the years that followed were not that great, either.
But hey, after countless bad decisions, a court-approved conservatorship and some very cheap-looking wigs, Britney has started to look like herself again. Over this past year, we’ve seen her grow again into the pop star she used to be – decent dance moves, amazing body and all.
There’s no doubt that this Britney has nothing to do with the lost woman that one Chris Crocker urged us all to leave alone in his slightly creepy and overwhelming YouTube video a few years back… If one can emerge stronger from such a low point, that’s definitely Brit. Still, why am I finding it hard to be truly excited for her otherwise admirable comeback? Continue reading “Why I’m finding it hard to root for Britney”
The 2016 Tony Awards took place on Sunday night (12 June) but there was a very spectacular moment I wasn’t aware of until now! Apparently, the host of the night, James Corden, organised his own little special show during commercials and it was priceless.
Corden invited attendees to join him on stage for what it felt like a very unique kind of karaoke, Broadway-themed and all! Actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Sean Hayes were up for the challenge, and what followed was simply magical.
The two of them did a duet of A Whole New World from Disney’s Aladdin, with Corden also joining them for the chorus. I’m pretty sure a performance like that should not be ‘wasted’ on commercials, but at least we can now witness it via Hayes’ Facebook page!
The actor posted the video with a caption saying, “During commercial breaks at The Tony’s tonight, the amazingly brilliant James Corden started up a Broadway-themed ‘commercial karaoke’. He asked for volunteers. Jake Gyllenhaal & I were happy to oblige with our rendition of ‘A Whole New World’ from ALADDIN. #TheTonyAwards.”
Is it time to re-watch Aladdin already?
It’s about time we listened to a good girl-power song, and Meghan Trainor’s No is just that! The singer performed her latest single live at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night, leaving everyone in the crowd breathless with her amazing vocals and sassy dance moves!
No promotes female empowerment, its lyrics suggesting that no man should consider a woman as their property, forcing them to do anything against their will. With Kesha’s case all over the news for the past weeks, this song inspires women to fend for themselves and regain their confidence.
The track was originally written about producer L.A. Reid, who, as Trainor said in an interview, did not initially believe in her upcoming album. You may watch the official video for No here.
* Meghan Trainor’s new album, Thank You, is due for release on 13 May.
