Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton cover ‘Waterfalls’ to promote new season of The Voice

The Voice coaches gathered around for an intimate acoustic session to introduce the talent show’s upcoming season starting on Monday (27 February) – and it was magical.

Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton covered TLC’s 1994 hit Waterfalls in their own unique way. Even though the song is by now a classic, they’ve managed to give it a new, more melodic and less pop, life, their amazing voices being totally in sync.

I love how their vocals blend so smoothly and I’m kind of impressed by Stefani’s and Keys’ take on the late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes’ rap verse! After the performance, Levine enthusiastically said, “That’s how you sing, America!”. I couldn’t agree more.

The Voice judges spin the microphone!

I love the games that Jimmy Fallon plays with his guests on The Tonight Show and “Spin the Microphone” looks like something I would definitely choose to play with my friends!

Fallon invited The Voice’s coaches, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine, to basically take part in a round of “spin the bottle” – only instead of a bottle you spin a microphone, and instead of kissing you have to sing.

The outcome was hilarious and it’s kind of reassuring to know that even Adam Levine can mess up a karaoke night; Oops!… I Did It Again never sounded so horrible, indeed. But still fun.

Adam Levine’s “little wife” met him and it was precious

By now, you probably all have seen the little girl who had a meltdown when her mum told her Adam Levine was married. It was so heartbreaking (and viral!) that Ellen DeGeneres invited both of them on her show to discuss about the Maroon 5 frontman and Mia’s love for him.

And while Mia still likes to believe that he’s not married and she will in fact one day be his wife, she didn’t seem that excited once the love of her life actually sat on the couch next to her. Levine offered her a rose, but Mia ran to her mum and grabbed her arms the whole time he was there.

Not exactly the reaction we were expecting, but so cute, nonetheless! As Levine pointed out “she has moved on”. Either that or she was obviously, and rightfully so, super shy – and super adorable.

Those lazy hazy crazy days of summer

I’m telling you, this summer wasn’t supposed to “hurt like a motherf****r”, no matter how much the ever-naked Adam Levine tried to warn us. (How Maroon 5 got to be ‘explicit’ I’ll never know, by the way.) This summer was supposed to be smooth, free of troubles and pain.

After all, Saturn has left us, poor Sagittarians, to move to Scorpio for these three warm months. But no; I suddenly want ‘him’ back, because, let’s face it, Scorpio seems no suitable environment for such a bitchy planet that thrives on darkness and despair.

And before you start losing it with all these astro-references, I will simply say that, for whatever reason, this was no easy summer. It was one of those times when Murphy’s law makes total sense and no matter what you do things are bound to go wrong. But that’s ok. The sun is meant to shine again and a new hopeful season is just about to start.

While I was trying to put my mind at ease, far from all things bad and problematic, there was nothing really exciting going on music-wise. Except for 5 Seconds of Summer’s She’s Kinda Hot, which – oddly enough – did not remind me of My Chemical Romance’s Teenagers but did sound a bit like Sum 41… It’s pretty “alright, though” and did manage to make my day(s).

Then, a few days ago, I listened to Lana’s High By The Beach and thought to myself “Paparazzi or not, maybe getting high by the beach is not such a bad idea, after all.” I’m still wondering, though, why Del Rey is releasing yet another album in such a short period of time after Ultraviolence… And by the – initial – sound of it, Honeymoon doesn’t look that promising. (In any case, we’ll find out on 18 September so stay tuned.)

On a happier note, I found the time to finish my Gilmore Girls reruns, which, you could say, made me a tad wiser. I’ve always loved the show and the fact that this year marked its 15th anniversary made it me re-watch it all over again. And it was totally worth it. Even though Rory makes everything look unrealistically easy (like the time she landed a reporting job covering the Barack Obama campaign – because dah! If that’s not a beginner’s position, then what is?), it was nice identifying with some of her problems, while experiencing the small-town charm.

All in all, the summer did hurt like a motherf****r, but this means that if the fall is even slightly better, we still stand a pretty good chance of having a nice time! And Saturn will just have to live with that.

If only we could all throw “sugar bombs” at Adam Levine…

This man has been through a lot lately… After recently being attacked by an overly enthusiastic fan on stage, Adam Levine has now faced the horror of a… sugar bomb!

That’s right; the Maroon 5 frontman was attacked outside the studios of Jimmy Kimmel Live in Los Angeles with sugar! As crazy as that sounds, I’m guessing the “attacker” only wanted to pay homage to the band’s latest single, Sugar. Continue reading “If only we could all throw “sugar bombs” at Adam Levine…”

Adam Levine stalks his wife in new Maroon 5 video!

It’s no surprise that Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine chose to show some skin yet again… Only this time, it’s covered in blood!

The band have just revealed the music video for the single Animals off their new album V. Adam Levine portrays the creepy butcher who’s stalking a customer, played by his real-life wife, Behati Prinsloo. Thank God it’s his wife, because the clip includes some overly sexy scenes! And some pretty twisted ones… (Why is he almost hanged next to the lambs? As if the blood and the stalking weren’t creepy enough.)

As for the song, it’s not something we’ve never heard before, since Maroon 5 stay faithful to their pop sound, with no great surprises. But congrats for the clip, guys; I needed to get used to blood again, before The Vampire Diaries’ new season starts!

Begin Again (Review)

So cinema is expensive in London; and when I say expensive, I mean that sometimes it’s the price of a theatre play. To me, those two must never cost the same! That’s why I find it stupid to have to pay that much for a movie… So when I do go to the cinema here, I at least expect the film to be worth my money.

Luckily, Begin Again belongs to this category of films which are not only worth your money, but they’re actually a very fun way to spend your night. Starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, this musical romantic comedy-drama fills you with music and makes you want to get off your seat and dance!

At first, I started to like where this was going; musician Gretta, aka Keira Knightley, gets dumped by also musician boyfriend, played by Adam Levine in his acting debut. That’s when a record company guy (Mark Ruffalo) comes into sight, to promise Gretta a record deal and make her famous! (As you can tell, I’m always into the cheesy stuff, as long as music and recording studios are involved!)

However, I did not expect it to be this good! Gretta and Dan, the label executive who’s just been fired, decide to make an ‘outdoor record’. How great is that? An entire album recorded out in the street! I loved the idea so much that I started to wonder if this had ever been done before. If it has, I’m sorry, I’m not the ultimate music history fan!

Either way, the whole concept of experiencing New York through singing on rooftops or in parks or even in the subway was enough to make me fall in love with the film. Also, it’s nice to see how music brought a group of strangers together, including Dan’s once broken home.

Keira Knightley is as sweet as it can get and Mark Ruffalo is always up for the task. Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is also good as an actor -which I hadn’t expected, to be honest. His character is not that agreeable, but still, he manages to bring a successful/‘too commercialised’ musician to life (mostly through hipster beards and vests!)

Last but not least, the songs were amazingly beautiful. The music is really what makes this film so wonderful. I thought someone else was singing instead of Keira Knightley, but it turns out she sings a lot of the tracks featured in the film, herself. I especially loved Like A Fool and Lost Stars (with Levine’s incredible voice). I’m literally one step away from buying the soundtrack!

So yes, if you’re looking for a calm, sweet way to spend your night, with a lot of music, Begin Again is the right choice.

Maroon 5 reveal new single, ‘Maps’- one more weird surprise

Songs About Jane, which was released back in 2002,was basically the first and last Maroon 5 album I loved. It’s not that I hate their music; on the contrary, I believe it’s a shame that they turned out to be just like everyone else as the years went by…

At first, the band had this unique style, which, combined with Levine’s interestingly high vocals, made me love most of their songs. 2007’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long and 2010’s Hands All Over, however, were not that interesting. Both of these records actually included some pretty decent tracks, although, honestly, they were too few for the albums to be considered good. (The beautiful Never Gonna Leave This Bed was sadly not enough to save the day.) Overexposedreleased in 2012, is hardly worth mentioning.

Now, as Adam Levine is getting blonder and blonder and as the bleach is getting sucked into his system, Maroon 5’s music seems to be taking a turn for the worse. I always try to listen to their stuff with the utmost respect but I can’t help it if they sound sillier by the album. The band’s new single, Maps, out of their upcoming record, V, has a strange dance vibe, which even outdoes their usual cheesy pop tunes.

The only thing missing from their previous albums was the electronic elements… But now, they got that covered as well! And the outcome is… well, not good. Some people might be into this type of thing, but for me, they couldn’t do worse than that…

Nevertheless, if you liked Maps, you might also want to hear what Adam Levine told Ryan Seacrest about Maroon 5’s new album.

Throwback Thursday!

So what if it’s still Thursday? In rainy London, it feels like a rainy Sunday morning, as described in Maroon 5’s song. This single has always been my favourite of the band and it kind of marks the early stages of their career.

Sunday Morning, off Maroon 5’s 2002 Songs About Jane album reminds me of the band’s more relaxed and slightly less pop days, when Adam Levine still had his brown hair and didn’t look like a blonde vain old dude! Anyway, it’s all a matter of taste…

“Sunday morning rain is falling and I’m calling out to you. Singing someday it will bring me back to you.”

Lady Gaga meets Christina Aguilera on stage

The eccentric star and the pop diva were rumoured to hate each other, as it always happens with popstars… This time, though, they decided to leave the “feud” behind for the sake of The Voice USA’s final last night.

Lady Gaga started singing her latest single Do What U Want (originally featuring R. Kelly), when Christina Aguilera joined her on stage. The ladies both looked stunning and their voices were beautifully matched (although I do prefer Christina’s vocals).

Blonde hair, vinyl outfits and two glasses of champagne made this performance even more glamorous.

According to MTV, Aguilera was looking forward to this duet and as she said: “Female to female in this industry, it’s really hard to find that kind of a person. I love you girl and you deserve everything that you’ve earned.”

Other artists like Paramore and Celine Dion also performed on stage along with contestants, while Tessanne Chin (Adam Levine’s contestant) was the winner of series five of The Voice.

Last but not least, I would like to say that I love presenter Carson Daly just for the fact that he hasn’t aged a day since the TRL era; he takes me back to the good old MTV days… Keep it up, man!
