Are T.V. shows the trendiest drug of the decade?

Lately I’ve been so hung up on T.V. shows that I realised I cannot live without them anymore. You could say it’s an addiction but I don’t blame myself. T.V. series have become more popular than ever and online streaming companies are popping up out of nowhere!

Traditional T.V. is not enough anymore since we are always anticipating for the next best thing. T.V. networks like HBO and BBC have already moved towards the faster and more reliable web, in order to establish Internet T.V.

Online streaming companies such as Netflix, which scored five million viewings in the first six months of its release, are constantly raising the bar, producing shows that are only meant for the web.

This abundance of platforms, whether it’s traditional T.V. or streaming services, has made room for all kinds of series, opening a whole new chapter of creativity. Producers are now opting for quality shows, paying extra attention to detail, exactly like they would do for a film.

Period drama series like Downton Abbey or Mad Men are perfectly capable of portraying the most accurate image of the ‘20s and the ‘60s, having us stare open-mouthed at the marvelous costumes and the vintage cars. Downton Abbey even created a fashion line based on the costumes of the series after popular demand.

HBO’s Game of Thrones is a classic example of how T.V. series are becoming an almost vital part of our everyday life. Due to the overwhelming reception of its first episode, with 2.2 million viewers in the U.S. and 743,000 viewers in UK and Ireland on April 17 2011, HBO announced that there would be a second season right from the first episode.

Of course, not all online services are free and not all T.V. enthusiasts are willing to pay for the services of Netflix or Sky in order to watch their favourite series. Still, there are too many shows and too many different ways to watch them. So if you haven’t already, pick some and become a T.V. junkie yourself!
